Getting Your Health Insurance to Cover the Cost of Your Unit

​

When a person requires a "CRANIAL HAIR PROSTHESIS" (medical wig) while undergoing cancer-related therapy or have been diagnose with Alopecia, they may be eligible for reimbursement under their health insurance plan or since we are in-network with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas we will process the claim on your behalf. Therefore, we do all the paper work.

If your insurance company has prosthesis coverage in your policy, they will tell you the amount you are allowed to spend each year for covered purchases.

​

The actual coverage amount will be determined by your insurance company. Most insurance companies will cover only a portion that usually starts around $350 & goes up to into the thousands. If you choose an item that exceeds the amount of coverage that is provided by your insurance provider, you can pay the difference for the unit.

Insurance companies will cover from 80% to 100 % of a cranial prosthesis.

GUIDELINES FOR FILING INITIAL INSURANCE CLAIMS:

We do all the paper work all we need is a prescription from your treating physician. We need a copy of your DL and front and back copies of your insurance card.

What is a cranial prosthesis?

Cranial Prosthesis (WIG): Are the latest development in hair replacement units. It is a medical term used to describe a hair system designed specifically for those suffering from long term or permanent hair loss due to a medical condition such as chemotherapy, alopecia, Trichotillomania, or other medical conditions. Cranial prostheses can be full or partial and must be clearly identified as a full or partial cranial prosthesis on a prescription from a physician in order to claim insurance benefits

If you don’t have any insurance coverage you could try to contact your state or county agencies. The County Department of Social Services offers medical assistance in most states for individuals who meet certain income guidelines.

  

 

American Cancer Society

American Cancer Society has a program available to those who qualify to assist you in purchasing a cranial hair prosthesis. If your insurance does not cover the full cost of your cranial hair prosthesis or only covers partial cost of your unit, you may quality for an allotment through the American Cancer Society. The American Cancer Society will issue you a voucher up to $75 to help cover the cost of your cranial hair prosthesis. However, you must meet certain financial guidelines.

You must apply for this voucher before you purchase a "cranial hair prosthesis". It will not be awarded for pre-made purchases. To inquire about getting financial assistance for your cranial hair prosthesis purchase, you can contact the American Cancer Society below:

NAAF has established the Ascot Fund. This special pre-purchase program
